CoregCLASS and MECHANISM of Action Generic "Coreg" belongs to the class of drugs known as beta-blockers. These beta-blockers affect the circulatory system, which includes our heart, arteries and veins.
Active Ingredients: Carvedilol Inactive Ingredients: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, hypromellose, lactose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, povidone, sucrose, and titanium dioxide. What is Generic "Coreg" PRESCRIBED For? Generic "Coreg" is indicated for the treatment of mild-to-severe chronic heart failure of ischemic or cardiomyopathic origin, usually in addition to diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and digitalis, to increase survival and, also, to reduce the risk of hospitalization .
How Should I Take Generic "Coreg"? Hypertension: 6.25 mg twice daily; if tolerated, dose should be maintained for 1-2 weeks, then increased to 12.5 mg twice daily. Dosage may be increased to a maximum of 25 mg twice daily after 1-2 weeks. Maximum dose: 50 mg/day
Congestive heart failure: 3.125 mg twice daily for 2 weeks; if this dose is tolerated, may increase to 6.25 mg twice daily. Double the dose every 2 weeks to the highest dose tolerated by patient. Angina pectoris (unlabeled use): 25-50 mg twice daily. Administer with food. What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Coreg"? Hypersensitivity to Generic "Coreg" or any component of the formulation; patients with decompensated cardiac failure requiring intravenous inotropic therapy; bronchial asthma or related bronchospastic conditions; second- or third-degree AV block, sick sinus syndrome, and severe bradycardia (except in patients with a functioning artificial pacemaker); cardiogenic shock; severe hepatic impairment; pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimesters)
What Happens if I MISS A DOSE? If possible, do not miss a dose of this drug. If a dose is missed, however, take the missed dose as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the subsequent dose according to schedule. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
What happens if I OVERDOSE? The most common symptoms include hypotension and bradycardia. Atrioventricular block, intraventricular conduction disturbances, cardiogenic shock, and asystole may occur with severe overdose.
What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic "Coreg"? Generic "Coreg" may have any of the following serious side effects and allergic reactions: Difficulty in breathing, Closing of the throat, Swelling of the lips, face and tongue, Hives, Wheezing or shortness of breath, Unusually slow or irregular heartbeat, Sudden weight gain, Chest pain, Swelling of the feet, ankles or lower legs, Unusually cold or blue hand or feet.
Other side effects may also occur when you take Generic "Coreg". Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual while or after taking this drug. What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic "Coreg"? Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs before taking Generic "Coreg": A heart medication such as nifedipine, reserpine, verapamil, diltiazem, clonidine, digoxin, doxazosin, quanadrel, prazosin or terazosin; Diabetes medication; Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug; Respiratory medications; Stomach medications
You may not be able to take Generic "Coreg", may need dosage adjustments or may need special monitoring while taking this drug if you are taking any of the preceding medications. Other drugs may also interact with Generic "Coreg". Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications other than this drug including over the counter prescriptions such as vitamins, minerals or herbal products. Additional Information Fluid retention during therapy should be treated with an increase in diuretic dosage.
