DifferinCLASS and MECHANISM of Action Generic "Differin" is in a class of medications called retinoid-like compounds. Generic "Differin" has actions similar to vitamin A (retinol). It stimulates cell division in the skin and reduces the production of keratin. It aids skin peeling and prevents the formation of acne lesions (comedones).
Acne is caused by blockage of sebaceous glands. This leads to an accumulation of the skins natural oils (sebum). Bacteria on the skin feed on sebum and produce waste products which further inflame the sebaceous glands, causing acne. Irritant substances can leak into the surrounding skin causing further inflammation. The action of Generic "Differin" combats the changes that take place in acne. Active Ingredients: Adapalene 0.1% (1 mg) Inactive Ingredients: Carbomer 940, edetate disodium, methylparaben, poloxamer 182, propylene glycol, purified water and sodium hydroxide. May contain hydrochloric acid to adjust pH. What is Generic "Differin" PRESCRIBED For? Generic "Differin" is mainly used in cases where patients need to be treated for acne vulgaris (most commonly known as pimples). Apart from its primary use, this drug may have other uses as well and may be prescribed for a sum of other skin afflictions, so if you have any questions about why were you prescribed Generic "Differin" treatment, you should consult your personal health care specialist.
How Should I Take Generic "Differin"? Generic "Differin" is applied at night before going to bed, unless your doctor has told you otherwise.
Thoroughly wash the areas to be treated with water. Make sure the skin is clean and dry before using Generic "Differin". Put a thin film of the cream with your fingertips on to the affected areas and rub in gently. Do not forget to wash your hands afterwards. How long you will have to use Generic "Differin" will depend on how quickly your acne improves. After you have used Generic "Differin" for 3 months, it is important that you see your doctor. He or she can then check the improvement of your acne. Keep the medicine in its original container. Do not store above 25°C. Do not freeze. Do not use it if it is out of date. What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Differin"? Do not use Generic "Differin" if you are sensitive to adapalene or any other components of the cream.
What Happens if I MISS A DOSE? As Generic "Differin" is a need-based drug, there cannot be cases of missed dose. It is better to set up a regular application schedule, but if you miss an application there will be no serious consequences. Apply Generic "Differin" when you remember, or simply continue with your regular schedule.
What happens if I OVERDOSE? Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. Overuse of Generic "Differin" can cause redness, peeling, and discomfort. If you suspect an overdose, check with your doctor immediately.
What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic "Differin"? Side effects of Generic "Differin" usage may include, but not limit to allergic reactions, irritation, redness, dryness or itching of the skin in the treated areas. Flares of acne have also been noted, as well as increases in the sensitivity of the skin to sun, leading to sunburns. Although most of the effects decrease with continuous use, it is recommended to use a protective substance on the affected area and consult your personal health care specialist. Excessive sun exposure should be avoided while using Generic "Differin", and if there is no way to avoid that, use protective sun screening lotions over the treated areas. If you experience anything unusual or bothersome during or shortly after your treatment with Generic "Differin", you should alert your personal healthcare provider as soon as possible.
What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic "Differin"? Skin-peeling agents and skin drying preparations , such as medicated cosmetics, soaps, toiletries and other anti-acne preparations increase the likelihood of dryness and irritation of the skin.

Weather extremes such as wind or cold may also be irritating to the skin. Use a sunscreen daily and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
