EdiseraCLASS and MECHANISM of Action Generic "Edisera" works by blocking reverse transcriptase, an enzyme that is crucial for the hepatitis B virus (HBV) to reproduce in the body. It is approved for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B in adults with evidence of active viral replication and either evidence of persistent elevations in serum aminotransferases (primarily ALT) or histologically active disease. The main benefit of Generic "Edisera" over lamivudine (the first NRTI approved for the treatment of hepatitis B) is that it takes a much longer period of time before the virus develops resistance to it.
Active Ingredient: Adefovir dipivoxil Inactive Ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, pregelatinized starch and talc. What is Generic "Edisera" PRESCRIBED For? This medication is an acyclic nucleotide analog used to treat a chronic viral infection of the liver (hepatitis B). It works by slowing the growth of the virus. It is not a cure for hepatitis B and does not prevent the passing of hepatitis B to others. Generic "Edisera" is used to treat chronic (long-term) hepatitis B infection (swelling of the liver caused by a virus) in patients who have symptoms of the disease.
How Should I Take Generic "Edisera"? Generic "Edisera" comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day with or without food. Take Generic "Edisera" at around the same time every day. Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. To be sure this medication is not causing harmful effects, your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. Your kidney or liver function may also need to be tested.
Store between 15-30 degrees C. Keep the container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Edisera"? Do not take Generic "Edisera" if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Generic "Edisera".
If you take Generic "Edisera" and you are pregnant talk to your doctor about how you can be on the Generic "Edisera" pregnancy registry. We do not know if Generic "Edisera" can pass through your milk and if it can harm your baby. You will need to choose either to breast feed or take Generic "Edisera", but not both. Your dose and schedule of Generic "Edisera" may be reduced if you have kidney problems now or had them before. Blood tests will need to be done regularly to see how your kidneys are working. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements. Some medicines may affect how Generic "Edisera" works, especially medicines that affect how your kidneys work. Generic "Edisera" can affect how your other medicines work. Your dose of Generic "Edisera" and the other medicines may be changed. Do not take any other medicines while you are taking Generic "Edisera", unless your doctor has told you it is okay. What Happens if I MISS A DOSE? Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at your next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
What happens if I OVERDOSE? Symptoms of a Generic "Edisera" overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and other stomach problems.
