CLASS and MECHANISM of Action

A selective estrogen receptor modulator, meaning that it affects some of the same receptors that estrogen does, but not all, and in some instances, it antagonizes or blocks estrogen; it acts like estrogen to prevent bone loss and improve lipid profiles, but it has the potential to block some estrogen effects such as those that lead to breast cancer and uterine cancer.

Inactive Ingredients: Anhydrous lactose, carnauba wax, crospovidone, FD&C Blue No. 2 aluminum lake, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, modified pharmaceutical glaze, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, povidone, propylene glycol, and titanium dioxide.

What is Generic "Evista" PRESCRIBED For?

Generic "Evista" is indicated and prescribed for the treatment of osteoporosis in women who are on their post menopausal stages.
Generic "Evista" is indicated for the reduction in risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.

How Should I Take Generic "Evista"?

Oral: 60 mg/day which may be administered any time of the day without regard to meals.

What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Evista"?

Women with signs or symptoms of cancer of the lining of the womb (endometrial cancer).
Severely decreased kidney function.
Decreased liver function.
Failure of the normal flow of bile from the liver to the intestines (cholestasis) which can result in jaundice.
Vaginal bleeding of unknown cause.
Pregnancy.
Women who could get pregnant (a woman is considered fertile for two years after her last menstrual period if she is under 50, or for one year if over 50).
Breastfeeding.
Rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients.

What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?

Double doses of Generic "Evista" are strictly not encouraged. And if you miss a dose it is best if you entirely skip that missed dose and proceed to the next one. However, you can take the missed dose if it is still many hours away from the next scheduled dose.

What happens if I OVERDOSE?

Incidence of overdose in humans has not been reported. In an 8-week study of postmenopausal women, a dose of Generic "Evista" 600 mg/day was safely tolerated.

What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic "Evista"?

Allergic reactions (for patients who are allergic to the components of Generic "Evista")
Pain in the legs
Swelling of legs
Abrupt chest pains
Changes in vision
Unexplainable vaginal bleeding
Leg cramps
Muscle soreness
Weight gain and bloating
Hot flashes
Rashes
Excessive sweating

Other side effects may also occur and they may not be mentioned here but if you experience side effects that are bothersome and intolerable immediately seek medical advice.

What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic "Evista"?

Cholestyramine and Ampicillin
Colestipol
Blood thinners or anticoagulants such as Warfarin
Estrogen, Progesterone or any other hormonal medicines
