CLASS and MECHANISM of Action

Generic "Feldene" contains piroxicam which is a member of the oxicam group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Generic "Feldene" obstructs the enzymes, which lead to the development of prostaglandins, in the patient's body. By doing this, Generic "Feldene" ensures that inflammations, fever and aches brought about by the typical cold are reduced. Other proposed mechanisms of action for anti-inflammatory action are lysosomal stabilization, kinin and leukotriene production, alteration of chemotactic factors, and inhibition of neutrophil activation. This latter mechanism may be the most significant pharmacologic action to reduce inflammation.

Children: 0.2-0.3 mg/kg/day once daily; maximum dose: 15 mg/day

Dosing adjustment in hepatic impairment: Reduction of dosage is necessary
Store the Generic "Feldene" medication at room temperature. Keep Generic "Feldene" out of the reach of children. Store the Generic "Feldene" drugs in a place which is protected from excess heat, light and moisture.

What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Feldene"?

People in whom aspirin or other NSAIDs, cause allergic reactions such as asthma attacks, itchy rash (urticaria), nasal inflammation (rhinitis) or swelling of the lips, tongue and throat (angioedema).
Active peptic ulcer or bleeding from the gut.
People who have had recurrent peptic ulcers or bleeding from the gut.
People who have previously experienced bleeding or perforation of the gut as a result of taking an NSAID.
Severe heart failure.
This medicine is not recommended for children.

If you are being administered HIV protease inhibitors, heparins or tacrolimus, do not follow the Generic "Feldene" therapy. This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?

Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

What happens if I OVERDOSE?

Additional Information

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnancy unless considered essential by your doctor. This is particularly important in the first and third trimesters. If taken in the third trimester it may delay labour, increase the length of labour and cause complications in the newborn baby. This medicine may pass into breast milk in small amounts.
