Generic Imdur is used for Preventing angina (chest pain) caused by heart disease. Generic Imdur is a nitrate vasodilator. It works by widening the blood vessels in the body. This reduces the workload of the heart and helps to relieve chest pain.

If you have difficulty swallowing the whole tablet, ask your pharmacist if your brand of medicine may be broken in half. Take Generic Imdur with one-half glass of water or other liquid.
Do not suddenly stop taking Generic Imdur. You may have an increased risk of side effects (eg, an angina attack). If you need to stop Generic Imdur or add a new medicine, your doctor will gradually lower your dose.
Store Generic Imdur at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Generic Imdur out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Do not use Generic Imdur if: you are allergic to any ingredient in Generic Imdur or to other nitrate medicines; you are also taking a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (eg, sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil).

If you miss a dose of Generic Imdur, take it as soon as possible. If it is late in the day, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Symptoms of Generic Imdur overdose may include:

Headache is the most common side effect; usually, aspirin or acetaminophen will relieve the pain. The headaches associated with Generic Imdur usually subside within a short time after treatment with the drug begins. Check with your doctor if your headaches persist or become more intense. Another common side effect is dizziness.

Since Generic Imdur can cause hypotension (low blood pressure), other medications which can reduce blood pressure may produce additive effects causing serious drops in blood pressure. Such drugs might include those used to treat high blood pressure, some antidepressants; some anti-psychotics, quinidine, procainamide, benzodiazepines such as diazepam (Valium) or opiates (e.g. morphine).
Since ethanol also may intensify the blood pressure lowering effect of Generic Imdur, patients receiving Generic Imdur should be advised to use ethanol with caution.

Generic Imdur may cause dizziness or lightheadedness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Generic Imdur with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
