CLASS and MECHANISM of Action
Generic Lotrimin is an anti-fungal medication related to fluconazole (Diflucan), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), and miconazole (Micatin, Monistat). It is used topically on the skin, inserted vaginally or allowed to dissolve in the mouth for local fungal infections.
Active Ingredients: clotrimazole
Inactive Ingredients: mineral oil, white petrolatum, cetearyl alcohol, ceteareth-30, propylene glycol, sodium phosphate monobasic, and phosphoric acid; benzyl alcohol as preservative.
Betamethasone dipropionate, USP (equivalent to 0.5 mg betamethasone).

Generic Lotrimin is used to treat yeast infections of the vagina, mouth, and skin such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and body ringworm. It can also be used to prevent oral thrush in certain patients.

How Should I Take Generic Lotrimin?
Use Generic Lotrimin exactly as directed by your doctor or follow the directions that accompany the package. The troches should be allowed to dissolve slowly in your mouth. Suck on one troche at a time until it is completely dissolved, usually 30 minutes. Do not chew or swallow the troches whole. The troches are usually used five times a day. Follow your doctor's instructions.

What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic Lotrimin?
Do not use Generic Lotrimin if you have had an allergic reaction to it in the past. Generic Lotrimin is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is unlikely to harm an unborn baby. Do not use Generic Lotrimin without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.

What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?
If you miss a dose of Generic Lotrimin, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next regularly scheduled dose, skip the dose you missed and apply only the regular amount of Generic Lotrimin. Do not use a double dose unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
What happens if I OVERDOSE?
An overdose of Generic Lotrimin topical is unlikely to occur. If you do suspect that a much larger than normal dose has been used, or that Generic Lotrimin has been ingested, contact an emergency room or a poison control center.
What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic Lotrimin?
Adverse reactions reported with the use of Generic Lotrimin are as follows: erythema, stinging, blistering, peeling, edema, pruritus, urticaria, and general irritation of the skin.
The following local adverse reactions are reported infrequently when Generic Lotrimin are used as recommended. These reactions are listed in an approximate decreasing order of occurrence: burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, maceration of the skin, secondary inafection, skin atrophy, striae, and miliaria.
What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic Lotrimin?
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are using, including non-prescription medicines. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have liver disease. You may not be able to take Generic Lotrimin, or you may need a lower dose or special monitoring during treatment.
Generic Lotrimin is not absorbed through your stomach. It will not treat fungal infections in any part of your body other than your mouth and throat. Talk to your doctor if you have another type of fungal infection such as athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, or a vaginal yeast infection.
