Naphazoline HydrochlorideCLASS and MECHANISM of Action This medicine, in the form of eyedrops, is used to relieve irritation or congestion and to treat eye allergies and inflammation.
Upon ocular administration, Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride" exerts its effect by acting on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the arterioles of the conjunctiva to produce vasoconstriction, resulting in decreased conjunctival congestion and diminished itching, irritation and redness. Active Ingredients: Naphazoline Hydrochloride Inactive Ingredients: Ctric acid, monohydrate; edetate disodium; polyvinyl alcohol 1.4%; purified water; sodium chloride; sodium citrate, dihydrate; and sodium hydroxide to adjust the pH. It has a shelf life pH range of 5.5 to 6.5. What is Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride" PRESCRIBED For? Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride" is indicated for the temporary relief of redness associated with minor irritations of the eye, such as those caused by pollen-related allergies, colds, dust, smog, wind, swimming, or wearing contact lenses.
How Should I Take Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride"? Use the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use more drops or use them more often than prescribed. Before applying medicines to your eyes wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back, and gently pull your lower eyelid down to form a pouch. Hold the dropper directly above your eye, look up, and squeeze a drop of the medicine into the pouch. Close your eyes for a minute or two and with a fingertip press gently on the inside corner of your eye to keep the medicine from draining out. Do not rub your eyes.
To keep from contaminating the medicine, do not let the tip of the dropper touch your eye or any other surface. Do not rinse the dropper. After use, put the cap on tightly. Store between 15° to 25°C (59° to 77°F). Keep the container tightly closed. Protect it from heat, high humidity, and bright light. What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride"? Patients should be advised to discontinue the drug and consult a physician if relief is not obtained within 48 hours of therapy, if irritation, blurring or redness persists or increases, or if symptoms of systemic absorption occur, i.e., dizziness, headache, nausea, decrease in body temperature, or drowsiness.
To prevent contaminating the dropper tip and solution, do not touch the eyelids or the surrounding area with the dropper tip of the bottle. If solution changes color or becomes cloudy, do not use. It is also not known whether Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride" can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride" should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed. It is not known whether Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride" is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride" is administered to a nursing woman What Happens if I MISS A DOSE? If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and use the next one as directed. Do not use double doses.

What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride"? Your doctor should be informed immediately if one of the below side effects occur: Severe eye pain; chest pain; sensitivity to light; floating spots in the eyes; blurred vision; tremor; sweating; unexplained weakness; rapid or slow heart beat; dizziness; nausea; headache; decrease in body temperature; increased redness, irritation, or swelling of the eyes.
What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic "Naphazoline Hydrochloride"? Discuss with your doctor if you are taking: MAO inhibitor antidepressants such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), and tranylcypromine (Parnate) (Do not take an MAO inhibitor and this medicine within 14 days of each other.); tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitriptyline, nortriptyline (Aventyl, Pamelor), imipramine (Tofranil), and doxepin (Sinequan).
Additional Information Do not use the medicine if it becomes discolored or cloudy.
