Generic "Pepcid" is also used for treating heartburn and in healing ulceration and inflammation of the esophagus. It is also prescribed for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

How Should I Take Generic "Pepcid"?

While taking Generic "Pepcid" follow the instructions of your doctor.
Usual DOSAGE:
for treating duodenal ulcers: 40 mg once daily at bedtime or 20 mg twice daily.
for treating gastric ulcer: 40 mg once a day at bedtime
for treating esophagitis: 20-40 mg twice daily for 6-12 weeks
for treating Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: 20 mg every 6 hours.

Generic "Pepcid" should be stored at room temperature, 15 -30°C (59-86°F).

What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Pepcid"?

Generic "Pepcid" is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to other H2-receptor antagonists. This medication is contraindicated in patients with: Kidney or liver disease; Vomiting with blood; Bloody or black stools; trouble or pain swallowing food.

What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?

If too much time passed, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not double dose of this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

No important drug interactions with Generic "Pepcid" have been identified. However, before taken any additional medications talk to your doctor. However, Generic "Pepcid" may affect the actions of other medications by changing the acidity of the stomach.

Additional Information

It may take up to 8 weeks for an ulcer to heal. Do not take antacids within 1 hour of taking Generic "Pepcid". Antacids may decrease the effectiveness of Generic "Pepcid".
