Generic "Pravachol" works by blocking the body's ability to make cholesterol. This medication can help lower blood cholesterol for patients who are at risk of getting heart disease or a stroke.
It is only for patients whose cholesterol level is not controlled by diet. It is not a cure.

Inactive Ingredients: Croscarmellose sodium, lactose, magnesium oxide, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and povidone, Red and Yellow Ferric Oxide.

What is Generic "Pravachol" PRESCRIBED For?
LDL, or low-density lipoprotein, is referred to as the "bad" cholesterol. HDL, or high-density lipoprotein, is known as the "good" cholesterol. Generic "Pravachol" lowers the levels of "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raises the level of "good" cholesterol in the blood.
How Should I Take Generic "Pravachol"?
Each dose of Generic "Pravachol" is taken orally with a full glass of water. It can be taken with or without food. The usual dose is taken once a day. However, you may need to take more than one tablet a day. Therefore consult the doctor before taking this medicine.

What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Pravachol"?
- Generic "Pravachol" is contraindicated in patients that have:
- allergic reaction to Generic "Pravachol", other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
- kidney or liver diseases
- blood salt imbalance
- low blood pressure
- any hormone disorder (such as diabetes, under-active thyroid)
- seizures (convulsions)
- severe injury
- muscle disorder or condition
What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?
If you forgot to get a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not double the dose.
What happens if I OVERDOSE?
To date, there has been limited experience with overdosage of Generic "Pravachol". If an overdose occurs, it should be treated symptomatically with laboratory monitoring and supportive measures should be instituted as required.
What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic "Pravachol"?
- As many other medicines, Generic "Pravachol" can cause different side effects. Usually they do not require medical attention:
- headache
- flu-like symptoms
- dizziness
- Other rare side effects that may happen are:
- yellowing of the skin or eyes
- unusual tiredness or weakness
- skin rash, itching
- redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth
- muscle pain, tenderness, cramps, or weakness
- fever
- decreased urination, difficulty passing urine
- dark yellow or brown urine.
What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic "Pravachol"?
- Before taking this medicine inform your doctor about other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Patients that use caffeine, alcohol, illegal drugs or smoke, cannot take Generic "Pravachol" as they may affect the way the medicine works. Generic "Pravachol" can interact with the following drugs:
- orlistat
- medicines to lower cholesterol or triglycerides (examples: cholestyramine, clofibrate, colestipol, fenofibrate, gemfibrozil, niacin)
- itraconazole
- cyclosporine

Generic "Pravachol" is only part of a total cholesterol-lowering program. Your physician or dietician can suggest a low-cholesterol and low-fat diet that will reduce your risk of getting heart and blood vessel disease. Avoid alcohol and smoking, and keep a proper exercise schedule.
