Generic "Proscar" comes as a once-a-day tablet. It should be taken orally. Take it with a full glass of water. Do not chew or crush it. Do not take this medicine without talking to your doctor. Follow its directions thoroughly. For best results take the medicine at the same time each day.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F).
Protect from light and moisture. Keep container tightly closed.
Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

Before taking Generic "Proscar" inform your doctor if you have: prostate cancer; liver disease; kidney disease or infection; allergic reaction to Generic "Proscar", other medicines, foods, or dyes.

Side effects from Generic "Proscar" are uncommon and don't affect most men: less desire for sex; difficulty in achieving an erection; a decrease in the amount of semen; rashes; itching and swelling of the lips and face; testicular pain.
Please NOTE that these side effects are very rare. They occurred in less than 2% of men.
Generic "Proscar" can affect a blood test called PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) for the screening of prostate cancer. If you have a PSA test done, you should tell your doctor that you are taking Generic "Proscar".

Generic "Proscar" should not be taken by men who are taking "Propecia" (finasteride 5 mg) or any other 5a-reductase inhibitor for benign prostatic hyperplasia or any other condition. Even if Generic "Proscar" does relieve your urinary symptoms, periodic checkups are necessary to test for possible development of cancer of the prostate. This medication is not an effective treatment for prostate cancer.
