Reglan

CLASS and MECHANISM of Action

Generic "Reglan" inhibits gastric smooth muscle relaxation produced by dopamine, therefore increasing cholinergic response of the gastrointestinal smooth muscle. It accelerates intestinal transit and gastric emptying by preventing relaxation of gastric body and increasing the phasic activity of antrum. Simultaneously, this action is accompanied by relaxation of the upper small intestine, resulting in an improved coordination between the body and antrum of the stomach and the upper small intestine. Generic "Reglan" also decreases reflux into the esophagus by increasing the resting pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter and improves acid clearance from the esophagus by increasing amplitude of esophageal peristaltic contractions.

What is Generic "Reglan" PRESCRIBED For?

Generic "Reglan is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux and for the relief of symptoms associated with acute and recurrent diabetic gastric stasis.

How Should I Take Generic "Reglan"?

The use of Generic "Reglan" tablets is recommended for adults only. Therapy should not exceed 12 weeks in duration.
Generic "Reglan" is an oral medicine. Take each tablet with a full glass of water. Do not chew, split or cruch the tablet. Swallow it whole. To avoid stomach upset it's preferable to take this medication with food.

Generic "Reglan" should be stored at room temperature. Avoid moisture and heat.

What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Reglan"?

Generic "Reglan" is contraindicated in patients that have: kidney or liver disease; diabetes (your insulin dose may need adjusting); congestive heart failure; an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma); a perforation (hole) in your stomach or intestines; bleeding or blockage in your stomach or intestines; epilepsy or other seizure disorder.

What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?

If you forgot to take a dose and it is almost time for the next one, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up the missed one.

What happens if I OVERDOSE?

Overdose symptoms are: drowsiness, confusion, tremors or uncontrolled muscle movements in face or neck, seizure (convulsions).
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.

What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic "Reglan"?

Below are listed several side effects that need medical attention immediately if occur: hallucinations, anxiety, agitation, jittery feeling, trouble staying still; fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, rapid breathing; swelling, fluid retention; seizure (convulsions); depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself; tremors, or restless muscle movements in your eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck; jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes); mask-like appearance of the face.

Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your doctor if some of adverse reactions are long lasting. You may need a dosage adjustment.

What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic "Reglan"?

Generic "Reglan" can interact with any of the following medications: an MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate); bronchodilators such as ipratroprium (Atrovent) or tiotropium (Spiriva); atropine (Donnatal, and others), benztropine (Cogentin), dimenhydrinate (Dramamine), methscopolamine (Pamine), or scopolamine (Transderm-Scop); bladder or urinary medications such as darifenacin (Enablex), tolterodine (Detrol), or solifenacin (Vesicare); acetaminophen (Tylenol); cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune); digoxin (digitalis, Lanoxin); glycopyrrolate (Robinul); etc.
Other medications may also interact with Generic "Reglan", therefore make sure your doctor knows all the medications you are taking or plan to take.
