CLASS and MECHANISM of Action

Generic "Risperdal" contains risperidone, a psychotropic agent belonging to the chemical class of benzisoxazole derivatives. It is thought that Generic "Risperdal" works by correcting the function of nerve pathways in certain areas of the brain.

Active Ingredients: Risperidone
Inactive Ingredients: Colloidal silicon dioxide, hypromellose, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, and starch (corn).

What is Generic "Risperdal" PRESCRIBED For?

Generic "Risperdal" helps to treat schizophrenia, psychosis and hypomania. Schizophrenia can cause symptoms such as hallucinations (e.g., hearing, seeing, or sensing things that are not there), delusions, unusual suspiciousness, and emotional withdrawal. People with this condition may also feel depressed, anxious, or tense.

How Should I Take Generic "Risperdal"?

Take Generic "Risperdal" tabletes by mouth. Do not split, crush or chew the tablet. The dose is prescribed individually to each patient. Take your doses at regular intervals. Each dose should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking except on your prescriber's advice.

an unusual or allergic reaction to risperidone, other medicines, foods, dyes
pregnant or trying to get pregnant
breast-feeding
frequently drink alcohol-containing beverages
blood disorder or disease
dementia
diabetes
difficulty swallowing.

What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?

If you forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not double the dose to make up the missed one.

What happens if I OVERDOSE?

In case of acute overdosage, establish and maintain an airway and ensure adequate oxygenation and ventilation. Seek medical attention as soon as possible.

What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic "Risperdal"?

fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
changes in vision
increased thirst or hunger
increased need to pass urine
loss of balance, difficulty walking or falls
confusion
aching muscles and joints
changes in vision
stiffness, spasms, trembling

Additional Information

Some patients who take this medicine may develop muscle movements that they cannot control. This is more likely to happen in elderly patients, especially women. The chance that this will happen or that it will become permanent is greater in those who take Generic "Risperdal" in higher doses or for a long time. Muscle problems may also occur after short-term treatment with low doses. Tell your doctor at once if you have muscle problems with your arms; legs; or your tongue, face, mouth, or jaw (eg, tongue sticking out, puffing of cheeks, mouth puckering, chewing movements) while taking Generic "Risperdal".
