Generic Simcard-Ez is a drug combination used for the treatment of dyslipidemia. It is a combination ezetimibe and the statin drug simvastatin (best known as Zocor in the U.S.). Generic Simcard-Ez works by reducing the amount of cholesterol that the body absorbs from the food ingested. Simvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor or statin. It works by blocking an enzyme that is necessary for the body to make cholesterol.

It is used along with a proper diet to help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and fats (triglycerides) in the blood while raising good cholesterol (HDL). Reducing your cholesterol and fats help prevent strokes and heart attacks. Generic Simcard-Ez is used in adults and children (10 years of age and older). Young girls must have had their menstrual periods for at least one year before starting this medication.

Take this medication by mouth once per day usually in the evening, with or without food; or as directed by your doctor. Remember to use it at the same time each day. Dosage is based on your medical condition, response to therapy, and use of certain interacting medicines. Use this medication regularly. It may take up to 2 weeks before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. It is important to continue taking generic Simcard-Ez even if you feel well. Store at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Do not take Generic Simcard-Ez:
If you are allergic to ezetimibe or simvastatin,
If you have active liver disease or repeated blood tests indicating possible liver problems.
If you are pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, or planning to become pregnant or breast-feeding.
Generic Simcard-Ez is not recommended for use in children under 10 years of age.

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

The following side effects have been reported in general use with Generic Simcard-Ez:
allergic reactions including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat that may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing (which may require treatment right away), rash, hives; joint pain; muscle pain; alterations in some laboratory blood tests; liver problems (sometimes serious); inflammation of the pancreas; nausea; dizziness; gallstones; inflammation of the gallbladder.

See your doctor regularly to check your cholesterol. Your doctor may do blood tests to check your liver before you start taking Generic Simcard-Ez and during treatment.

While being treated with this medication, limit the amount of grapefruit or grapefruit juice you may eat or drink (less than 1 quart a day), unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Grapefruit juice may increase the amount of Generic Simcard-Ez in your bloodstream.

Generic Simcard-Ez should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur: certain azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole), delavirdine, HIV protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir, amprenavir, lopinavir), certain macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin, troleandomycin), mibefradil, nefazodone, telithromycin. If you are currently using any of these medications, tell your doctor or pharmacist before starting Generic Simcard-Ez /simvastatin. Use caution if you are taking the following drugs in combination with this product because serious side effects such as muscle injury (myopathy) could occur: fibrates (e.g., gemfibrozil, fenofibrate), high-dose niacin (1 gram or more per day). Before using Generic Simcard-Ez, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), digoxin, other drugs which affect certain liver enzymes (CYP 3A4 substrates, inhibitors, and inducers such as amiodarone, cyclosporine, diltiazem, verapamil, rifampin, St. John's wort, carbamazepine).
