SingulairCLASS and MECHANISM of Action Generic Singulair is in a class of medications called leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRAs). It works by blocking the action of substances in the body that cause the symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis. It is not useful for the treatment of acute asthma attacks, so patients should also be supplied with rescue medication, such as an albuterol inhaler. Generic Singulair blocks the action of leukotriene D4 on the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor CysLT1, thus inhibiting bronchoconstriction.
Active Ingredients: Montelukast sodium. Other Ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, hydroxypropyl cellulose, and magnesium stearate. What is Generic Singulair PRESCRIBED For? Generic Singulair is used to prevent difficulty breathing, chest tightness, wheezing and coughing caused by asthma.
