CLASS and MECHANISM of Action

Generic Stugeron is an anti-histaminic drug which is mainly used for the control of vomiting due to motion sickness. It acts by interfering with the signal transmission between vestibular apparatus of the inner ear and the vomiting centre of the hypothalamus. The disparity of signal processing between inner ear motion receptors and the visual senses is abolished, so that the confusion of brain whether the individual is moving or standing is reduced. Vomiting in motion sickness is actually a physiological compensatory mechanism of the brain to keep the individual

What is Generic "Stugeron" PRESCRIBED For?

Generic Stugeron is prescribed for:
Preventing and treating motion sickness
Relieving nausea, vomiting, attacks of dizziness or spinning sensations (vertigo) and sensations of ringing or other noise in the ears (tinnitus) associated with Meniere's disease and other middle ear disorders.
The uses of Generic Stugeron include:
Control of vestibular symptoms of both peripheral and central origin and of labyrinthine disorders including vertigo, dizziness, tinnitus, nystagmus, nausea and vomiting.

How Should I Take Generic "Stugeron"?

Take Generic Stugeron once a day, exactly as prescribed. This medication can be taken with or without food. Generic Stugeron may make your mouth dry. Sucking hard candy, chewing a stick of gum, or melting bits of ice in your mouth can provide relief. Store below 25°C in a dry place. Protect from light.

What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic "Stugeron"?

Children under five years of age
Hereditary blood disorders called porphyrias
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Rare hereditary problems of fructose or galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency. This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?

If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

What happens if I OVERDOSE?

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.
Overdose may be fatal especially in infants and children in whom the main symptoms are central nervous system stimulation and antimuscarinic effects including ataxia, excitement, hallucinations, muscle tremor, convulsions, dilated pupils, dry mouth, flushed face and hyperpyrexia.

What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic "Stugeron"?

What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic "Stugeron"?

Generic Stugeron may enhance the sedative effect of central nervous system depressants including alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, narcotic analgesics, tricyclic antidepressants, sedatives and tranquillisers. The side-effects of anticholinergic substances such as atropine and tricyclic antidepressants may be enhanced by the concomitant administration of antihistamines. Monoamine-oxidase inhibitors may enhance the antimuscarinic effects of antihistamines.
It is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with this medicine. Similarly, check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new medicines while taking this one, to ensure that the combination is safe.
    There may be an increased risk of drowsiness if this medicine is taken with any of the following (which can also cause drowsiness):
  • alcohol
  • antipsychotics, eg chlorpromazine
  • benzodiazepines, eg diazepam, temazepam
  • sedating antihistamines, eg chlorphenamine, promethazine
  • sleeping tablets, eg zopiclone
  • strong opioid painkillers, eg morphine, codeine
  • tricyclic antidepressants, eg amitriptyline.

The following hints may help you avoid travel sickness:
At sea: where possible, stay on deck and keep your eyes on the horizon. Keep away from diesel and galley smells. Avoid rich and fatty foods.
