Take Generic Vantin tablets by mouth with food. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not take Generic Vantin if you have ever had an allergic reaction to another cephalosporin or to a penicillin without first talking to your doctor.
Before taking Generic Vantin, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, or a gastrointestinal (digestive) disease such as colitis.
You may not be able to take Generic Vantin, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have either of the conditions listed above.

Generic Vantin is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Generic Vantin and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; hives; or a rash); rash, redness, or itching; severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; mucous or blood in the stool; or unusual bleeding or bruising.

Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Generic Vantin and talk to your doctor if you experience: mild nausea or diarrhea, or a yeast infection of the mouth or vagina.

Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: probenecid (for gout), "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), any other antibiotics. Diabetics should be aware this medication may cause false positive urine glucose tests. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about alternative ways to monitor your sugar levels. This drug may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Generic Vantin is to be used only by the patient for whom it is prescribed. Do not share it with other people.
