Ventolin

CLASS and MECHANISM of Action

Generic Ventolin contains the active ingredient Salbutamol, which is a type of medicine known as a short-acting beta 2 agonist. It works by acting on receptors in the lungs called beta 2 receptors. Stimulation of these receptors causes the muscles in the airways to relax, allowing the airways to open. Salbutamol or albuterol is a short-acting ß2-adrenergic receptor agonist used for the relief of bronchospasm in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Albuterol works by relaxing muscles in the airways to improve breathing.
Albuterol is used to treat bronchospasm (wheezing, shortness of breath) associated with reversible obstructive airway disease such as asthma.

Active Ingredients: Albuterol Sulfate/ Salbutamol
Inactive Ingredients: sodium chloride; sulfuric acid, contains no sulfiting agents or preservatives.

What is Generic Ventolin PRESCRIBED For?

Generic Ventolin is used to treat people with asthma and other chest illnesses. It is particularly prescribed to relieve asthma symptoms, and to prevent asthma symptoms brought on by exercise or other triggers. Generic Ventolin is used to prevent and treat wheezing, difficulty breathing and chest tightness caused by lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a group of diseases that affect the lungs and airways). Generic ventolin inhalation aerosol is also used to prevent breathing difficulties during exercise.

How Should I Take Generic Ventolin?

Children 4 years of age and older should use Generic Ventolin under adult supervision, as instructed by the patient's doctor. The inhaler should be at room temperature before use. Make sure that the canister is seated in the plastic actuator before each use. Your Generic Ventolin inhalation aerosol should be primed before using it for the first time. Generic Ventolin inhalation aerosol should also be primed when the inhaler has not been used for more than 14 days or when the inhaler has been dropped. Make sure to read and follow the above instructions for Priming Your Generic Ventolin inhalation aerosol. Shake the inhaler well immediately before each spray. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not break, crush, or chew the Generic Ventolin tablets. These are specially formulated to release the medication slowly in the body. The Generic Ventolin tablets have an outer shell that is not absorbed by the body. Occasionally, this shell may be seen in the stool. This is not a problem as the medication has been absorbed by the body.
Seek medical attention if you notice that you require more than your usual or more than the maximum amount of any asthma medication in a 24-hour period. An increased need for medication could be an early sign of a serious asthma attack.

What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic Ventolin?
